Who We Are

The Basic Needs Program is a student-led charity dedicated to protecting and promoting the wellbeing of desperately poor children. Founded in 2007 by two college students, Richard Hubbard and Sohan Rahman, Basic Needs has grown from a simple experiment in human kindness to a not-for-profit organization which has so far reached dozens children from the slums and villages of Bangladesh. The premise of Basic Needs is simple: all children deserve the chance to succeed. To this end, we seek to provide educational opportunities, health care, livable housing, clean water, and proper diets –in short, the basic needs of life – to a select group of at-risk children.
